Update: Fatal vehicle accident closes Highway 16 west of Vanderhoof

Highway 16 has since been re-opened.

Update at 3:18 p.m.

Highway 16 is now open after a fatal vehicle accident closed the highway six kilometres west of Vanderhoof on Tuesday, Nov. 10.

At 11:23 a.m., Vanderhoof RCMP and emergency services personnel were called to a crash where police found a single vehicle overturned in a creek, stated a Nov. 10 news release.

There were two people in the vehicle. The driver was removed from the vehicle and taken to the hospital, but later succumed to injuries. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, stated the news release.

The investigation is ongoing, police said, adding that even though casual factors are yet to be determined, the roads were reported to be snow covered and slippery at the time of collision.

There are no known witnesses and police are hoping to talk to anyone who may have seen this crash.
