UPDATE, 1:30 p.m.:
A two-storey home succumbed to flames this morning (Dec. 9) on Jay Road, in the Dragon Lake/Lakeview area.
Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department fire inspector/safety officer Ron Richert said 21 firefighters responded to a call at 7:15 a.m. this morning. Five pieces of apparatus were used from the Quesnel Fire Department, and Richert said he also called in a water tender from Kersley Fire Hall for back up.
“There was one person home when the fire started and he got out OK,” said Richert.
“It was fully involved when I got there, so we think it had been burning unseen for quite a while. I was there within five minutes,” said Richert, who was the duty officer at the scene.
The fire department received multiple 911 calls once the flames were visible.
“It could have been in a hidden area and all of a sudden when the windows start to blow out, people can see it and call it in,” said Richert.
A vehicle that was parked in the garage also burned.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
UPDATE, 9:50 a.m.:
The cause of the fire is still unknown; however, the occupants of the house are safe, according to Observer staff at the scene.
B.C. Ambulance Service was on scene this morning as a precaution.
UPDATE:
According to a scanner update, Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department personnel have reported that they are now in mop up stages with the fire.
The Observer will update as we find out more about the suspected cause of the blaze and the wellbeing of the occupants.
