UPDATE: Fire extinguished at Kelowna Superstore

Customers sent out to parking lot while Kelowna Fire Department put out electrical fire

UPDATE 1:17 p.m.

Kelowna fire crews extinguished a small electrical fire at the Kelowna Superstore Tuesday afternoon.

The small fire erupted in the back of the store at about 1 p.m. and employees quickly called 911 to report the blaze.

Upon getting to the location, fire fighters were able to douse the remainder of the fire, which had partially gone out.

“We received 911 calls from staff reporting a fire in the back of the store,” explained KFD platoon captain John Kelly. “It was reported as electrical in nature. When we got there there were still some flames. Crews were able to isolate the power and then extinguish the fire.”

Damage was minimal according to Kelly, who said customers are now allowed back into the store.

The B.C. Safety Authority will be called in to investigate the cause of the fire, which is common in electrical fires.
