UPDATE: Fire near Penticton sign has been contained

A single helicopter bucketing water on the blaze made quick work on the brush fire

UPDATE: 1:45 p.m.

A brush fire that sparked near the Penticton sign on Thursday afternoon (Sept. 9) has been contained less than two hours after starting.

Penticton fire crews along with BC Wildfire are in mop up stage as of 1:45 p.m.

The fire was first spotted around noon climbing up Munson Mountain, just below the KVR Trail.

There were three hot spots in the brush fire that saw tall flames climbing the mountain. People were being asked to stay of Munson Mountain and the KVR Trail while fire crews worked.

Firefighters were quick to the scen as was a single helicopter dropping water on it.

The fire has rapidly climbed up the hill, inching close to a nearby home.
