A woman who fell into the Gorge Waterway Saturday was safely located after West Shore RCMP searched the water and nearby neighbourhood for what they initially thought was a missing person.
A Saanich Fire Rescue boat was launched from Gorge Park shortly after 1 p.m. when officers responded to a call of a woman “screaming and yelling at people” while in the shallow water of Portage Inlet.
According to a statement from West Shore RCMP, police located discarded wet clothing and personal items on the shore and began to canvas the neighbourhood and water for signs of the woman.
At approximately 4 p.m., West Shore RCMP located the woman at a residence in the area.
“Police were able to confirm that she was okay and had decided to leave her wet clothes and personal belongings behind after falling in the water,” said Const. Brent Vose.
