Hedley firefighters remain on scene of a house fire on Richter Avenue. The crew is working to remove combustibles, including gas and propane tanks, from the garage.

Heavy machinery was used to break open the roof of the garage, so the fire department could access the fire easier. Firefighters later removed the garage door to check for hot spots.
FortisBC cut power to the home. The fire crew is expected to remain on site for several more hours. The man who owns the home is travelling back from Vancouver.

Firefighters are battling a house fire on Richter Avenue in Hedley.
The Hedley volunteer fire department is on scene at the blaze, which started around 10 a.m. and is pumping large volumes of white smoke into the sky. The owner of the house was not at home at the time.

Observers report that the fire seems contained to the house and garage, and firefighters are directing their hoses into the garage.
A neighbour reports that the garage was full of various items, as the resident was a collector.
