UPDATE: 9:54 a.m.
At approximately 8:32 a.m. Kelowna Fire Dispatch received numerous 911 calls reporting a grass fire between Dilworth Drive and Enterprise Way.
First arriving crews reported, a small 30 foot x 30 foot grass fire. It was deep seated in the ground cover.
Initial Kelowna Fire Department crews attacked the fire with handlines and fire guarded to contain it.
Fire was started by cooking in a homeless shelter camp.
There were two engines, one bush truck, one command and one tender unit along with RCMP to extinguish the fire
Fire is believed to have started by transients. This fire is not deemed suspicious.

It might be winter, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t any risk of fire.
At about 8:20 this morning (Jan. 13), emergency crews were called to reports of a fire at the base of Dillworth Mountain. Fire services are working to extinguish the tree with one engine and a water tender enroute to the scene. Several fire trucks were observed arriving at the blaze.
RCMP are also attending the incident.
