An organizer of a Langley City demonstration to use federal funding for fighter jets for other purposes has announced the Saturday night, April 10 candlelight walk will not take place.
Brendan Martin and the other peace advocates with the No Fighter Jets Coalition Team were inviting the public to show support at a candlelit walk and fasting but cancelled to avoid the risk to attendees as COVID numbers spike.
He is asking people to learn more at https://nofighterjets.ca/fast. Organizers say people can still do such actions as fast, pray, meditate and light a candle, and encouraged people to email selfies to nofighterjets@gmail.com.

At 11 a.m. on Saturday, people can take part in a virtual interfaith gathering. Organizers are also encouraging Canadians to write letters to their federal politicians and the prime minister. The public is encouraged to post their opposition to the fighter jets on social media.

Organizers said the Langley event was part of a Canada-wide campaign to convince the federal government to use the money meant to buy new fighter jets on “employment which builds up communities rather than jets that bomb infrastructure like electrical grids, and water plants, hospitals and school buses in addition to direct killing of human beings.”
Some participants will be fasting, praying, or meditating, they said.
