UPDATE: Metro Studio shut down by City of Victoria – briefly

Fringe shows resume with fewer seats at the downtown venue

A Fringe Festival seating hitch at Intrepid Theatre’s Metro Studio venue Tuesday was quickly remedied Wednesday.

The City of Victoria posted a no occupancy order on the venue late in the afternoon Aug. 28, citing concerns over seating changes without plans being submitted to the city.

“It was at the end of the day so we weren’t able to talk with the city until (Wednesday),” said Heather Lindsay, general manager of Intrepid Theatre. “We had all the proper paperwork, we just needed to get it in. We’re learning to cross our T’s properly.”

Three Tuesday evening shows were cancelled. Ryuzanji Company of Japan, one of those cancelled, will hold an additional showing of Hanafuda Denki – A Tale of Playing Cards which is now scheduled for Sept. 2.

Metro is the site of numerous Fringe Festival performances this week, and those shows will go on, with seating reverting to its previous format.

“We’re losing about three rows of seats,” Lindsay said.

The existing 125 seats, however, are still on par with other Fringe venues in the city.

The theatre festival runs through Sept. 2. Visit victoriafringe.com for schedule and other details.

ADDITIONAL PERFORMANCES in the METRO:

Homewrecker Hot Dogs – Sat. Sept. 1, midnight.

Hanafuda Denki – Sun. Sept. 2, 10 p.m.
