A 34-year-old Mission man was arrested Thursday after a pickup rampaged through a Maple Ridge mall parking lot and struck a woman.
A man was arrested on scene for investigation of impaired driving, hit and run and dangerous driving causing bodily harm, according to Ridge Meadows RCMP Sgt. Brenda Gresiuk.
He was released on a promise to appear in court.
The Ridge Meadows RCMP traffic unit is still investigating the incident after the truck collided with vehicles, traffic barricades, and a covered bus stop at the corner of Dewdney Trunk Road and 240th Street.
Police received multiple 9-1-1 calls around 3 p.m. about a black Dodge pick-up driving recklessly near a restaurant drive-through lane.
The driver left a parking stall, backed into a parked vehicle, then drove forward into the restaurant drive-through lane, colliding with barricades, jumping the curbed drive-through lane and coming to a stop against an unoccupied bus stop, said Gresiuk.
A mother and her six-year-old son were in the truck’s path. She pushed her son out of the way, but was hit and pushed against a fence at the McDonalds drive through, witnesses said.
Both were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
According to a family member, the mother sustained a broken leg. The boy had a bump on his head. There was a clump of what appeared to be hair stuck in a wire fence near the drive-through.
Multiple ambulances responded, as did police and firefighters.
Bystanders also said the male driver waited in the truck until police arrived. The suspect was seen handcuffed in the back of a police car.
