A motor vehicle incident happened on Highway 5 south of Little Fort on the afternoon of July 25, near Thuya Creek Road.
BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) said it received a call at 3:30 p.m. and sent personnel to the scene, including medivac, to transport two people in critical condition and two people in stable condition to the hospital.
According to RCMP a family of five was travelling in a rental car, driving too fast for road conditions, and was unable to handle a left-hand curve in the road.
The car left the road, airborne, then fell down a 30-metre embankment before landing on its roof.
Brian Hodge was on his way home to Edmonton from Chilliwack after a holiday with his daughters when he came around a bend in the highway and saw a large cloud of dust near the side of the road.
“I didn’t see exactly what happened, but when I got around the corner there were two guys were there, one was on the phone and the other was looking off the side of the cliff,” said Hodge.
“That’s when I stopped and jumped out. I had my two girls with me and I ran back and just told them to stay in the truck, don’t get out, there’s been a bad accident then I ran back down and proceeded to jump down the cliff to give them a hand.”
RCMP said no serious injuries were reported, but the situation was treated as such at the time due to the nature and mechanics of the incident.
