A patient was airlifted to hospital following a collision between a transport truck and a motorcycle that caused Nanaimo River Road to be closed Monday afternoon.
Nanaimo RCMP, B.C. Ambulance and Extension Fire Department were called to the 600 block of Nanaimo River Road Monday at approximately 4 p.m. An air ambulance also attended the scene.
Emergency personnel at the scene confirmed one male patient was flown to hospital, but did not have information about the extent of his injuries.
The section of Nanaimo River Road was closed for at least two hours as police conducted their investigation. The intersection at Nanaimo River Road and White Rapids Road was also closed temporarily to be used as an air ambulance landing zone.
Nanaimo RCMP confirmed Tuesday the motorcyclist suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries in the crash.
“Truck was turning, motorcycle went down, hit the truck underside,” said Sgt. Jon Stuart, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, in an e-mail. “Speed is being considered a factor. Investigation is continuing.”
