UPDATE: Nanaimo Mounties arrest three murder suspects

Names released of two males charged with second degree murder.

Nanaimo RCMP have arrested a female suspect and two men in connection with the murder of Brittany Elsie Baird.

The woman was taken into custody Sunday and is the third suspect arrested over the weekend.

Police arrested two Nanaimo men, both 24, Saturday. Nanaimo RCMP identified Christopher James Robinson and Marcus Brandon Parry as the two men formally charged with second degree murder Monday.

The first was arrested at 1 p.m. on Fitzwilliam Street, while the second was arrested downtown near Nicol Street at 4 p.m.

Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, said the third suspect was initially brought in for questioning and subsequently became a suspect.

O’Brien said there was a “loose connection” between the suspects and the victim, while police earlier confirmed Baird was a targeted victim.

Further evidence was found over the weekend when search warrants were executed, first at an apartment connected to the two male suspects  on Bowen Road at 8 p.m. Sunday. Another search was conducted at 10:30 p.m. at the female suspect’s residence.

Baird, 22, was found dead on Milford Crescent near Selby Street late Wednesday by emergency crews after a series of 911 calls. Efforts to revive her failed.

Police are not yet releasing the cause of death.

Baird had a one-year-old son and had moved into an apartment in the 500 block of Selby Street eight days prior to her death.

The female suspect was scheduled to appear in Nanaimo provincial court Monday, while the two male suspects are scheduled to appear in Nanaimo provincial court today (May 31).

O’Brien said the name of the female suspect is being withheld pending charges formally sworn against them.
