Fraser-Cascade School District 78 has reported a positive case of COVID-19 at Agassiz Elementary Secondary School (AESS), according to a letter released Tuesday evening.
“A member of the Agassiz Elementary-Secondary community has tested positive for COVID-19,” the early notification letter reads. “They are now self-isolating at home with support from local public health teams.”
Fraser Health has determined there is no direct exposure risk at this time.
The individual who tested positive was at AESS on November 4, 5 and 6.
The letter from Superintendent Balan Moorthy states the health authority is performing contact tracing and will determine if anyone in the school was in contact with the person who tested positive while they were potentially infectious. In the event someone is in close contact with the infected person, the contact is required to self-isolate.
“If you are not contacted by Fraser Health Authority, it has been determined that your child is not at risk of developing COVID-19,” the letter continues. “The safety and well-being of our students, families and staff remains our highest priority. Please be assured that our school will continue to implement the strict protocols and procedures we have in place so that children can continue to attend school as safely as possible.”
Fraser Health may send letters to staff and families who will be asked to self-monitor for symptoms. Fraser Health states that students should come to school while contact tracing is underway.
If your child has symptoms of COVID-19, you will need to isolate yourself and your child from others and get tested as soon as possible. Contact 8-1-1 or your family doctor to find out if you should be tested for COVID-19.
