Police have confirmed that one person has died as a result of an accident on Highway 97A that sent three people to the hospital Friday.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends during this time,” Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP said.
Police said no further information is available for release.

Update: 12:45 a.m.
Following a lengthy closure, Highway 97A has reopened to traffic.
A Friday morning crash closed the highway for approximately four hours while crews cleared the scene an investigation took place.
The two-vehicle accident sent three to hospital, with one person in critical condition.
Update: 11:06 a.m.
One person is in critical condition following a crash that closed Highway 97A near Pleasant Valley Road south of Armstrong Friday, police say.
RCMP Const. Kelly Brett said that two drivers and one passenger have been taken to the nearest medical facility. One person is in critical condition.
Highway 97A remains closed with no estimated time of re-opening. DriveBC said it will provide an update at 12 p.m.
“Accident investigators were just on the scene but I expect it will be a while,” Armstrong Spallumcheen Fire Department chief Ian Cummings said earlier Friday morning.
The cause of the collision is not yet known.
RCMP are encouraging drivers to pay attention to changing weather conditions, slow down and ensure that proper winter tires are installed.

Update: 9:51 a.m.
A two-vehicle accident that forced the closure of Highway 97A south of Armstrong has resulted in serious injuries for three occupants.
“Three people were transported to the hospital,” said Armstrong Spallumcheen Fire Department chief Ian Cummings.
Cummings said the injuries were serious in nature but didn’t provide any further details.
DriveBC said they will provide an update on when the road will be open at 12 p.m.
“Accident investigators were just on the scene but I expect it will be a while,” Cummings said.
A reporter is on the way to the scene of the accident.

A crash has forced the closure of Highway 97A south of Armstrong.
According to DriveBC, a detour is available via Pleasant Valley Road. An update is expected at 10 a.m.
There is currently no word on any injuries or the cause of the collision.
