A passenger remains in hospital in “serious but stable” condition after a crash Monday on the Pat Bay Highway. Police were called to a report of a two-vehicle crash around 12:20 p.m.
Once on scene, police discovered that the injuries were potentially life-threatening to one of the occupants, who was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Police say a white SUV travelling northbound on the highway rear-ended a blue SUV near the intersection with Haliburton Road. The blue SUV then rear-ended a semi-truck that was stopped in traffic. One of the occupants of the white SUV was taken to hospital in critical condition. Two other occupants from the scene received minor injuries and were also taken to the hospital.
Traffic was impacted for almost two hours, which resulted in significant backups for northbound traffic. The status of the seriously injured occupant has improved to serious but stable condition. Police say driver impairment was not a factor in the crash.
As a result of the serious injuries, a collision analyst was called to investigate and the highway reduced down to one lane. Police cleared the scene by 3 p.m.
