A compact car, a white Infinity, traveling southbound on Highway 1 crossed the dividing line and crashed into a hydro poll and a long line of cedar fencing outside the Old Towne Inne Restaurant in Boston Bar June 6 at around 9 a.m.
Co-owner of the restaurant Dale Thomas did not see the accident happen, he was told about it by his staff who witnessed the vehicle coming to a stop outside their workplace.
Thomas said the car crossed into the opposite lane, hit a cement block and picked up air. It careened towards the restaurant, crashing into a hydro pole, slicing the pole clean off of its foundation. It then took down several metres of a cedar log fence in front of the restaurant before coming to a stop at the far edge of the Old Towne Inne’s property.
One of the two people involved in the crash was airlifted from the scene, the other was taken to hospital in an ambulance. Neither have any life-threatening injuries, Mike Halskov with the RCMP E Division Traffic Services stated in an email.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation and nothing has been ruled out at this point, Halskov stated, adding the roads were dry and the skies clear at the time of the crash.
Thomas said the restaurant would be closed for one or two days as the hydro pole and the fencing was repaired, he did not expect his business to be affected.
