A pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle in North Delta on Sunday morning is in the hospital with life threatening injuries.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Scott Road and 75A Avenue at about 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3. Delta Police Department public affairs manger Cris Leykauf told the Reporter in an emailed response the driver left the before police arrived and the incident is being investigated as a hit-and-run.
“The suspect turned himself into police later that same day,” Leykauf said. “I can confirm the Delta Police arrested an 18-year-old male for failing to remain at the scene.”
The suspect has been released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to be in Surrey court on April 5.
Leykauf said the investigation is ongoing and the DPD has yet to forward any charges to the Crown.
A Toyota Rav 4, photographed at the scene and initially reported as appearing to have been the one that struck the pedestrian, in fact belonged to a witness who had stopped after the accident.
Photos from the scene show the victim’s shoes, an umbrella and a water bottle strewn in the intersection.
