Three boys were on their way to go sledding on Tuesday when they had their pictures taken by a man they did not know.

Leanne Gray posted on the Huband Park Parents Facebook group that the incident happened to her two sons and a friend on Tuesday afternoon near Huband Park Elementary School.

Gray wrote that the man said hi to the boys and proceeded to take pictures of them, including pictures of their faces, telling them that he was making a “70’s movie”.

According to the Facebook post, the man was younger, dressed in black with a black toque and some facial hair.

She said the boys were scared and headed to a friend’s grandparents’ house where the police were contacted.

Following this interaction, the man was seen trying to open doors to a house across the street but left when he couldn’t get in.

The Comox Valley RCMP have confirmed there is an investigation into the occurrence.

“Currently, we have investigators working to see if we can identify the man who was taking pictures of the youth in the area of Huband Park Elementary School,” said Const. Monika Terragni, Comox Valley RCMP media relations officer. “We were in the area yesterday speaking with residents and will be back again today.”

Terragni said there are similarities between this incident and the one reported earlier in the week (which also occurred Tuesday), involving a child being approached along Willemar Avenue.

“The description of the man taking photos is similar to the description of the man who allegedly grabbed the child’s backpack earlier this week – investigators are considering a connection between the two incidents; although the age of the man/location/details of the incident are somewhat different,” said Terragni.
