Richmond RCMP said they have found the body of a man who went missing in the middle arm of the Fraser River on Sunday (July 5) night.
On Monday, RCMP said they received a report of a man in the water near Pier 73, the marina near the Pacific Gateway Hotel, along Cessna Drive in Richmond around 9:30 p.m.
The 24-year-old man had apparently jumped into the water to retrieve a football after a boat docked at the pier
Witnesses told police the man managed to retrieve the football but wasn’t able to get back to the dock. Two men jumped into the water to try and help but were unable to rescue him before needing to swim back to land.
The man’s body was recovered shortly after noon on Monday at low tide, not far from where he had disappeared. The man’s family has notified, and have agreed to release his name: Kory Conner Hedeo Nagata of Richmond.
