Graham Street in east Maple Ridge, near 112th Avenue, was blocked off and closed to all traffic Monday afternoon, because of a police incident. The road closure started at about 2 p.m. and reopened a few hours later.
Nearby Whonnock elementary was also in a hold and secure status, for a brief period but re-opened at about 2:20 p.m.
Ridge Meadows Const. Julie Klaussner said the incident related to police arresting a man in the area.
“The man refused to leave the house. Standard police protocol is to close the roads to traffic out of an abundance of caution, until police can determine what they are dealing with,” Klaussner explained.
She said the event lasted about three hours and ended peacefully with the man surrendering.
