A 71-year-old Salmon Arm man was flown to hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in this morning’s motor-vehicle collision on Highway 1.
Cp. Mike Wasylenki of RCMP Trans-Canada East Traffic Services (Revelstoke) said the two-vehicle collision occurred around 8 a.m. (Jan. 6), approximately seven kilometres west of Sicamous.
“Police have determined a westbound Dodge Dakota pickup truck driven by a 71-year-old Salmon Arm resident lost control of his vehicle due to slippery road conditions, and slid into the path of an eastbound semi,” said Wasylenki.
Wasylenki reports the driver of the semi was uninjured, while the driver/sole occupant of the truck was flown from the scene by helicopter to hospital in Kamloops for treatment of his injuries.
The highway reopened to alternating traffic at approximately 10:35 a.m.

Drive BC reports that the accident between a semi and a pick-up truck has been cleared. The Trans-Canada Highway is now open between Salmon Arm and Sicamous.

The Trans-Canada Highway between Sicamous and Salmon Arm has been opened to single lane alternating traffic following a crash three hours earlier. See more below.
UPDATE: 10:45 a.m.
A semi tractor-trailer and pickup truck crashed on Highway #1 early Friday morning, about eight kilometres west of Sicamous.
Emergency personnel responded to the two-vehicle accident, closing the highway.
The driver of the pickup truck was airlifted to hospital, while the driver of the transport truck is believed to have suffered minor injuries.
Drive BC reports that both lanes of the highway remain closed.

Avoid travel between Salmon Arm and Sicamous if at all possible.
A motor vehicle accident involving a semi-trailer occurred around 8:30 a.m. about six kilometres west of Sicamous.
Salmon Arm firefighters are on scene and have called for a spot to be cleared for an air ambulance.
Firefighters have also requested a call to an environmental agency to assess a spill of fuel.
