UPDATE: Forecasters are now calling for a ‘second winter storm’ on the heels of this morning’s snowfall.
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement Saturday afternoon, saying that another storm is set to arrive Sunday and last until Monday, starting with snow Sunday morning and then rain starting in the afternoon or evening.
“Snowfall amounts will vary due to the timing of the transition and additional alerts may be issued once snowfall amounts become more certain,” noted the special weather statement.
PREVIOUSLY POSTED: Most of the anticipated snowfall has already fallen, but snow remains in the forecast today, Feb. 13, and tomorrow.
Environment Canada says snowfall is expected to end near noon Saturday, but the skies will remain cloudy and there is a likelihood of more snow, as much as 10 centimetres, through the day. There is less chance of snow in the evening, with no significant accumulation expected.
Temperatures will stay steady at about 0 C throughout the day and night.
Sunday’s forecast calls for snow beginning in the morning, but only about five centimetres are expected. Temperatures will hover around 1 C all day and night.
The City of Nanaimo posted on social media this morning that crews are clearing priority routes “and there is still a lot of work to be done.” Motorists were asked to try to stay off the roads until conditions improve, both for their own safety and to give plows room to work.
