Some Oyama residents were on high alert due to a wildfire burning out of control Tuesday evening.
The Clarke Creek blaze, near Oyama Lake, was actioned by air tankers and helicopters after being discovered Tuesday evening, July 6. As of Wednesday morning, the blaze was 0.5 hectares with two helicopters and three personnel on-site and it was listed as out of control. Lightning is the suspected cause, according to BC Wildfire Service.

While no official evacuation alert was issued, the situation left locals feeling uneasy, especially since this was the second fire in the area in two days.
“They told me that the fire is out of control and something exploded so be on standby for evacuation,” Oyama Lake Road resident Nickie Burditt said July 6. She could see the orange glow of the flames and bombers circling above.
“Police stopped by and told us to notify all Oyama Lake residents and guests of a possible evacuation. It is always best to be over-prepared! I’m glad we were ready and also glad we did not need to evacuate.”
A fire burning west of Oyama Lake was sparked Monday, July 5. As of July 7, it is listed at around 0.1 hectares and deemed out of control. Lightning is also the suspected cause.
