Fire crews were busy this week in the South Okanagan as two separate wildfires burned approximately 20 kilometres east of Okanagan Falls.
The Kilmer Creek fire and the Solco Creek fire are both now classified as held, as of Aug. 3. No structures are threatened at this time.
The Solco Creek has grown to approximately 13.8 hectares in size.
Crews fighting the Solco Creek fire are being supported by a medium helicopter. There were 26 personnel fighting the fire on Aug. 3.
The Kilmer Creek fire remains held and under control at 1.10 ha.
Both fires are just inside an extreme fire rating zone. The majority of the South Okanagan is either in a high danger rating zone or extreme.
A total of 14 blazes were active across the Kamloops Fire Centre as of July 31. All are suspected to have been caused by lightning aside from the Solco Creek blaze, which does not yet have a determined cause according to BC Wildfire Service. Twelve of the fires are estimated to be 0.01 ha in size.
