A pick up truck crashed through the Dewdney Bridge railing and ended up in the water on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Fraser Valley Traffic Services, on July 2, at approximately 3:40 p.m. Mission RCMP and emergency services attended a serious crash on Lougheed Highway at the Dewdney Bridge in Mission.
Upon arrival it was determined that a west bound pickup truck operated by a lone individual had taken evasive action to avoid colliding with stopped traffic which was waiting for a train to pass.
The truck crashed through the bridge railing and into the water below.
The driver, a 19-year-old local man, was able to extricate himself from his sinking truck and was brought to shore by a boater.
Impairment has been ruled out as a contributing cause of this crash and no other people or vehicles were involved.
The driver was taken to hospital with undetermined, but non-life threatening injuries.
Lougheed Highway was closed for a period of time as police investigated and engineers conducted temporary repairs and ensured the structural integrity of the bridge.
The highway has fully re-opened to traffic and further repairs are expected to be completed in the coming days.
