Two people are dead after they tried to cross a creek on ATVs south of Campbell River.
Emergency crews were called to an incident involving all-terrain vehicle riders near Woods Creek on Sunday morning.
They arrived to find that three people had tried to cross the water but had been swept away.
“One of those people were found uninjured,” Staff Sgt. Troy Beauregard said. “Another person was located deceased, and recovery efforts went on throughout the day to try and locate the third person.”
The search was suspended Sunday night because of concern for volunteers working in the dark, and efforts resumed the next morning at first light.
The body of the third person was later located and recovered.
The search effort involved the local search and rescue team, the coast guard and 442 Squadron from CFB Comox.
