Two people are safe following a fire that gutted an entire home in Upper Thornhill last night Oct. 22.
The Thornhill Fire Department responded to the call at approximately 8:15 p.m. on Newell Avenue, near the Thornhill Pub, where they remained on scene until 1:45 a.m. the following morning to extinguish all the flames.
“It was fully engulfed upon arrival, it was a detached mobile home so the likelihood of saving those are very slim,” says fire chief Rick Boehm.
Boehm says no was hurt, but the two residents of the home were taken to hospital as a precaution for observation. The cause of the fire is unknown and is now under investigation.

All three halls of the Thornhill Fire Department responded to the fire, which included a crew of 12 firefighters on-site.
On Facebook, users shared images and details of the fire where some posted they heard “explosions”.
Boehm says it’s likely the sound came from propane tanks and other items on the property, as it appears the residents were into repairing mechanics.
“As with most repair centres or hobby shops, there are propane and other flammable devices,” he says. “It really sounded worse than it was.”

Members of the public are asked to phone the fire department at 250-638-1466 if they’ve witnessed anything related to the house fire.
