A Vancouver man accused of drugging and robbing a man from Surrey will be sentenced on May 1.
In B.C. Supreme Court in New Westminster last week, Brendan Thomas Roshinsky was found guilty of administering a drug to commit an indictable offence, theft over $5,000 and theft of a motor vehicle.
Roshinsky was 25 in late 2013 when he was arrested by Surrey RCMP, who had received a report from a man who said he’d met another man online. The victim claimed the man gave him a drink which knocked him out, and then stole various items and cash from his home, as well as taking his car.
A toxicology exam showed levels of GHB – commonly referred to as the “date rape drug” – in the victim’s system.
At the time of Roshinsky’s arrest in 2013, police released his photo, suspecting he may have victimized others in a similar manner, but B.C. court records do not indicate any subsequent charges being laid against him. His prior criminal record includes mainly theft-related charges.
A sentencing hearing took place in New Westminster Wednesday (March 18). His sentence is scheduled to be delivered in the same court May 1.
