The victim of what police say was a targeted shooting Monday afternoon in Fleetwood has now been identified.
Birinderjeet Justin Bhangu, 29, of Surrey was in a parked vehicle in the 8200-block of 166 Street just outside a Comfort Inn Hotel when was shot several times March 13. He was transported to hospital, but died of his injuries.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is now conducting the investigation, working with Surrey RCMP and the BC Coroner’s Service.
“This blatant act of violence was committed in a busy area of the community, and fortunately no one else was hurt,” said Cpl. Meghan Foster of IHIT. “Mr. Bhangu was known to police and evidence collected suggests this was a targeted homicide. Anyone who may have information about Mr. Bhangu’s murder is asked to contact police.”
IHIT says a dark Nissan Pathfinder fled the scene. Investigators continue to gather evidence, and will canvass the neighbourhood today seeking more information.
