Fire crews were called to 1165 Yates St. Thursday night for a report of a fire.
They found that the four-storey building had smoke coming out of the roof when the arrived. A crew of three fire engines, an aerial ladder truck, a rescue truck and the Battalion Chief’s command vehicle responded and were able to access the fourth-floor suite just after 6:00 p.m.
“There was smoke coming from the roof area, and we got that out quite quickly in order to get the crews up into the suite and pull the ceiling down,” said Battalion Chief Gary Birtwistle.
They were able to put out the fire after removing drywall from the affected suite, and its neighbour. Water damage was also reported for three other neighbouring suites.
The single resident was treated for smoke inhalation by B.C. Ambulance crews.
Fire investigators said the cause of the fire was a pot left on a stove, causing an estimated $100,000 in damages.
