Victoria police continue to investigate after a suspicous package was found at the Yates Street parkade Wednesday morning.
Around 11:30 a.m. police blocked off the 500 block of Yates Street after the package was found and was considered “concerning” to trained officers, who requested specialized equipment and resources, said police.
Police later used two controlled detonations to make sure there was no on-going risk to the public.
“We recognize the disruption this caused to the public and appreciate the patience shown by those impacted,” said acting media spokesperson Bowen Osoko in a Facebook statement.
“We want to reassure everyone that once neutrailized, we were able to confirm that the device itself was inert.”
The closure wreaked havoc in the area, backing up traffic and preventing drivers in the Yates Street parkade from leaving. Buildings opposite the parkade were also evacuated as a precaution.
The investigation is on-going.
