UPDATE: Wildfire near Sparwood under control, suspected person caused

The Robert Creek wildfire is now classified as under control.

It is now suspected that the fire was person caused.

UPDATE: Friday, August 23, 11:00 a.m.

The Robert Creek wildfire southeast of Sparwood is measured at 0.3 hectares and classified as out of control.

This story will be update as more information becomes available.

August 22:

Nine BC Wildfire Service personnel are onsite responding to a wildfire approximately 2km southeast of Sparwood in the Robert Creek area.

The fire, which was discovered and responded to yesterday, August 21, is currently estimated at 0.1 hectares in size, as of Thursday at 11:30 a.m.

A Sparwood resident reported seeing a plane and helicopter respond to the fire shortly after it was discovered.

At this time the fire is thought to have been caused by lightning.
