Update: advisory lifted Tuesday morning
At the Gateway of Hope shelter in Langley, extra sleeping mats will be available for homeless people starting tonight, following an extreme weather alert announced in response to an Environment Canada severe wind warning.
Cristina Schneiter issued the advisory for the shelter at 5787 Langley Bypass, is in effect until further notice.
Anyone who requires shelter assistance after 9 p.m. should call the Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200, the advisory said.

According to Environment Canada, an intense storm front was expected Monday afternoon, leading to winds of up to 80 kilometres an hour for the western side of Vancouver Island, while the Lower Mainland and eastern side of Vancouver Island were expected to see winds of 70 kilometres an hour.
Southeastern winds were expected to increase as the front got closer and to peak by early evening.
