Update: Winter storm creates havoc on highways around Revelstoke

Travel advisory in effect from Craigellachie to Golden as winter storm causes high avalanche danger. Trans-Canada closed west of Revelstoke.

The Trans-Canada Highway is closed west of Revelstoke for avalanche control and a travel advisory is in effect for the highway east of town after a winter storm dumped another load of fresh snow in the area.

DriveBC is reporting that the highway is closed from Craigellachie to Revelstoke and is not expected to open until Sunday, Mar. 4, at 9 a.m. The next update is schedule for 7 a.m.

DriveBC is warning of potential avalanche closures east of Revelstoke. As well, Highway 23 is closed north of Revelstoke all the way to Mica Dam.

On Friday a rolled over semi-trailer near the Jack McDonald Snowshed east of Revelstoke closed one lane of the Trans-Canada Highway to close for several hours.

There are also unconfirmed reports of other accidents on the roads around Revelstoke, including one near Albert Canyon and another on Mt. Begbie Road.

Revelstoke Mountain Resort is reporting nearly 40 cm of snow since the storm started Friday afternoon. Environment Canada is calling for an additional 5-10 cm tonight and even more precipitation on Sunday and Monday.
