SURREY — A 62-year-old woman is dead after a dramatic series of crashes in Surrey Wednesday night in which police suspect alcohol may have been a factor.
Police say they first responded to a crash at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday (March 22).
Surrey RCMP say a green GMC van was travelling eastbound on 72nd Avenue in the 14000-block when it hit several vehicles.
According to police, the van then continued eastbound on 72nd Avenue and hit another vehicie, a sedan, that was travelling northbound in the intersection of 152nd Street and 72nd Avenue.
Police say the suspect driver is a 68-year-old man and that officers are looking into his driving history.
The woman who was behind the wheel of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene, police say. A passenger, 84, is in serious condition, according to Surrey RCMP.
The van’s driver was injured as well, police say, and was transported to hospital.
Police have arrested the driver but no charges have been laid.
