Two vehicle accidents in as many days claimed the life of at least one driver around Campbell River this week.
A vehicle accident left one driver dead and injured another on Tuesday afternoon, closing Hwy. 19 north of Campbell River.
Emergency crews were called to the scene around 4:30 p.m.
A northbound car crossed the centre line, colliding with a southbound pickup truck near Brown’s Bay, according to police.
The driver of the sedan, a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck’s driver reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital.
The highway was closed for a 25 km stretch north of Campbell River, reopening to single-lane traffic by about 7:15 p.m.
Another collision took place on Hwy. 19 on Wednesday evening.
A witness reported that 12 or more police were at the scene of a “large vehicle accident” involving a semi-trailer near Woodburn Road in North Campbell River.
Cellphone footage from the scene showed multiple emergency vehicles near the Ford dealership at Hwy. 19 and Woodburn.
The highway was closed in both directions around 9 p.m. before reopening at midnight, according to DriveBC.
Campbell River RCMP didn’t immediately reply to requests for information.
