Avalanche control is affecting two Kootenay-Columbia area highways, according to DriveBC.
An eight-kilometre stretch of Highway 31 has been closed north of Galena Bay for avalanche control.
A portion of Highway 3 between Salmo and Creston will also be closed Thursday afternoon between 1 and 4 p.m. for avalanche control.
Avalanche Canada currently lists the South Columbia region, which includes Nakusp, at a high risk of avalanches. The Kootenay Boundary region, which includes Nelson, Castlegar, Rossland and Trail, is ranked as considerably dangerous.
The Trans-Canada Highway is also closed between Revelstoke and Golden because of avalanche danger. It’s expected to re-open at 8 p.m.
