UPDATED 4:20 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14:
No injuries were reported after a tractor caught fire at a farm on Commonage Road in Vernon Monday, Sept. 14.
Vernon Fire Rescue Services were called to the scene in the 500-block of Commonage Road just after 12 p.m.
“Two apparatus attended the scene with five firefighters,” said City of Vernon communications and grant manager Christy Poirier. “Upon arrival, the crew confirmed a tractor was on fire, which had minimal spread to the grass in the area. No structures were involved in the fire.”
Firefighters extinguished the fire quickly with no incidents. No injuries were reported.
Plumes of black smoke from the fire could be seen along Commonage Road in contrast to the grey wildfire haze hanging over the city.
There is no cause available at this time.

Plumes of black smoke were visible around Commonage Road after a tractor caught fire.
Vernon Fire Rescue Services responded to the reported tractor fire before 12:30 p.m. near Bench Row Road Monday, Sept. 14.
The fire was snuffed around 1 p.m.
Flames jumping from the large piece of agricultural equipment to adjacent grass was cause for concern but no grass ignited, according to reports.
