UPDATED: COVID-19 case connected to two Chilliwack schools

Principals of McCammon and A.D. Rundle notified staff of cases connected to 'school community'

Parents, students, teachers and staff have been made aware of COVID-19 connected to two Chilliwack schools.

Principals of A.D. Rundle Middle School and McCammon Traditional Elementary School sent out letters before Monday, Sept. 28 classes explaining the situation. The emails were circulating on social by Monday morning.

Principal Brad Driscoll at McCammon said “a member of our school community has tested positive for COVID-19” in a letter.

“We are working with the Fraser Health Authority to determined if there is any risk to other members of our school community or if any additional steps are required.”

And Principal Scott Wallace at A.D. Rundle said “a member linked to our school community has tested positive for COVID-19.”

The content of both principals’ letters were otherwise identical, pointing to a standardized form letter used by the school district in such instances.

At 2 p.m. on Monday, the school district responded to concerns swirling in the school community.

The letter underlines that no on-site school exposures to COVID-19 have been reported, and that has been confirmed by Fraser Health.

“We continue to work closely with Fraser Health to ensure timely and accurate communication regarding confirmed cases in our schools,” the letter states, written by Rohan Arul-pragasam, interim superintendent.

“The safety and well-being of our students, families and staff remain our highest priority,” he continues. “Please be reassured that our schools will continue to implement the strict protocols and procedures we have in place so that children can continue to attend school as safely as possible.”

* Editorial note: A previous version of this story implied there were positive cases of COVID-19 in the schools. We apologize for any confusion this caused.
