First responders had an action-packed Tuesday night attending the scene of two major accidents – one outside Genelle and the other near the regional fire hall.
The first 9-1-1 came into dispatch shortly after 5 p.m.
This one involved a four-vehicle crash on Highway 22 just south of the Genelle bluffs.
Six regional first responders from Co. 3 in Genelle and two from Trail’s Co. 4 attended the scene in approximately 10 minutes.
All occupants received minor injuries and were in the care of BC Ambulance Service, reported Captain Grant Tyson from KBRFR (Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue).
“Regional fire rescue would like to remind all motorists to slow down and drive to road conditions,” he added.
The next call came into the station just before 9 p.m.
Within three minutes KBRFR first responders were on scene at the Gulch intersection of Highway 3B and Highway 22.
Tyson says the driver of a semi-trailer hauling 60,000 lbs of recycling, lost control of his vehicle and slammed into a light standard at the junction.
“There were no injuries and luckily no other vehicles involved,” he reported.
Both incidents are under investigation by the Greater Trail RCMP.
A snowfall warning for Highway 3 – Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass – was in effect from Environment Canada all day Wednesday.
An additional 15 to 25 centimetres of snow was expected with precipitation forecast to taper off during the night.
DriveBC was advising commuters of compact snow with slippery sections on highways throughout the West Kootenay.
