Mischief, not an actual fire, was behind the a firefighter response to a building on 2nd St. N, near Victoria Ave on Wednesday morning, according to an update from the City of Cranbrook.
Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services responded to a fire alarm and reports of smoke in hallways at 2117 2nd St N in the early hours of the morning with two engines, aerial truck and eight firefighters. After entering, firefighters determined the fire alarm was caused by mischief and not a fire.
RCMP took over the scene and residents were allowed back into the building.
“We remind the public that these temporary closures are put in place to ensure a safe working area for responders and support personnel, and we ask that motorists avoid the area when emergency vehicles are present,” says Scott Driver, Director of Cranbrook Fire & Emergency Services.
However, the city’s update also noted that Cranbrook Fire & Emergency Services was pleased with the outcome of this incident and thankful for the patience of residents who were inconvenienced by the road closures and the temporary evacuation.
