A West Shore mother is being mourned after she was shot outside a home in Langford on Friday night.
Emergency crews were called to an address in the 800-block of Arncote Avenue – just off Peatt Road – around 9:30 p.m. on March 6 following reports of a shooting.
On Saturday morning, Const. Nancy Saggar said police arrived on scene to find that a 40-year-old woman was shot and “later succumbed to her injuries.”

Friends of the woman have identified her to Black Press Media as Angela Dalman, although police have not identified the victim. Dalman is a mother and West Shore resident.
Saggar said the suspect – identified as a 35-year old man – fled the scene in a car before officers arrived. The Vancouver Island Emergency Response team was sent out to look for him and policing agencies in the area were notified about the vehicle and suspect as well.
Around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, the suspect was located by the Saanich Police Department K-9 unit. Saggar said he was safely brought into custody and that he was known to police prior to the shooting.
Police are still trying to confirm how the man and woman knew each other, but Saggar said they do not believe the shooting was due to intimate partner violence.
“This was an isolated incident and we’re still trying to figure out exactly what the relationship was here,” Saggar said.
Both the man and woman were not residents of the home where the shooting took place. Saggar said there was a “gathering of people” at the residence that night where a “disturbance” occurred followed by the shooting.
The West Shore RCMP and Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) are still investigating. Authorities believe this was an isolated incident and that the public is not at risk. Saggar said there is no indication at the moment that it was gang related but noted police are open to all possibilities as they are still early in the investigation.
As of 8 a.m. on Saturday morning, investigators were still on-site and Arncote Avenue remained closed between Peatt and Deville Roads. Saggar said investigators are still processing the scene and that there is no estimate as to when they will be finished.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) at 250-380-6211.
“Obviously something pretty major happened here last night – a very, very major violent crime,” Saggar said. “We’re asking if you notice anything suspicious or unusual, not just in that neighbourhood but anywhere, that you call police and let us investigate that.”
