A man is lucky to be alive after a serious crash on the Golden Ears Bridge.
The accident happened just after 11:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
The driver was heading northbound over the bridge and just coming off the bridge deck when he went off road, rolling his vehicle before hitting a lamp standard in what had been described as a high speed impact crash.
The driver was still in the vehicle when emergency personnel arrived on scene, but not trapped. He was able to walk himself to a waiting ambulance.
Deputy fire chief Michael Van Dop with the Maple Ridge Fire Department says it takes a lot of energy to flip a car over.
“(There was) significant damage to the vehicle. The lone occupant is fortunate to sustain relatively minor injuries given the circumstances,” Van Dop said.
