Victoria police successfully located a man, who was the subject of a search of Victoria’s Inner Harbour on Wednesday.
According to the Victoria Police Department, the man, who was in distress, is alive and appears to be suffering from non-life-threatening injuries from exposure to the cold.
Police were called around 4:20 p.m. to the south side of the Johnson Street bridge. One patrol officer jumped into the water and searched underneath nearby docks. That officer was searching for a significant amount of time and was subsequently treated by paramedics for exposure to the cold.
At approximately 7:20 p.m. the man surfaced from the water and was brought to a dock by officers. Officers were able to confirm the man’s identity as the same person who was last seen in distress in the water earlier that day.
He was transported to hospital by paramedics.
Members of the Victoria Fire Department, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, the Coast Guard and the Saanich Police Dive Team were all involved in the search.
Shortly after the man was pulled from the water, VicPD issued a press release asking for help in locating Dallis Briet, who is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant. On Oct. 15, police took to Twitter to address rumours that Briet was the man pulled from the Inner Harbour.
“Dallis Briet is still outstanding and is not the man pulled from the Inner Harbour last night,” VicPD tweeted.
