UPDATED: Missing 84-year-old Saanich man with Alzheimer’s found in Esquimalt

The man had been missing since Wednesday

Saanich police have located Giles Bixler, an elderly man who went missing on Wednesday evening..

Bixler, 84, who suffers from Alzheimer’s, was found on Thursday afternoon in Esquimalt in the Saxe Point Park area.

Officers from the uniform division and the detective division searched in the area of Mount Douglas Beach, Cormorant Point and Balmacarra Beach with the assistance of the Victoria Fire Department. The Victoria Fire Department used a drone device in an effort to locate the heat signature of a person from an elevated position.

Search and Rescue were also assisting with the search.

Police are thanking Greater Victoria residents and volunteers for their help with locating Bixler.
