UPDATED: More than 13,000 customers without power following wind storm in Chilliwack

Power has been restored to some Chilliwack areas as of 11 a.m., but many still without power

More than 13,000 BC Hydro customers woke up with no power in Chilliwack Saturday morning.

Strong winds overnight knocked out power throughout the area including sections of Rosedale, Cultus Lake, Sardis and the downtown core.

According to BC Hydro’s power outage website, power was restored to 4,182 homes in the Sardis area around 10:15 a.m.

Trees had fallen across several roads, some taking hydro lines with them. Crews were on scene at a number of locations where traffic was rerouted including at Vedder Road (north of the Vedder Bridge), Chilliwack Central Road and Chilliwack River Road.

People on social media and elsewhere have been talking about greenhouses being blown over, fences knocked down and hot tub covers flying off.

Most of the power outages were reported to have occurred early Saturday morning between about 3 a.m. and 7 a.m.

It is not known when the power will be restored to other areas.

Check back here for more details as they become available.
