UPDATED: Motorcyclist seriously injured in parking lot crash near Trans-Canada Highway

At least one soutbound lane blocked

A motorcyclist sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries after crashing in a parking lot near the intersection of Tillicum Road and the Trans-Canada Highway on Thursday.

According to Saanich police, he was taken to hospital after striking a pole at the Chevron gas station parking lot. No other vehicles were involved.

The call came in to police shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday, and police were still on scene as of 3:30 p.m. Officers with the identification unit, called in to assess and photograph the scene, responded alongside members of the traffic unit, who are still determining what led to the crash.

At least one southbound lane on the highway was blocked as emergency crews responded.

The Saanich Police Department, as of 3:30 p.m., was still advising drivers to consider an alternate route.
