Nanaimo RCMP say shooting took place at Wakesiah area earlier with man deceased

Nanaimo RCMP are investigating whether a car fire in the Manning and Elizabeth street area in Nanaimo is related to a shooting death that took place the morning of Saturday, Jan. 13.

Nanaimo first responders were on scene at a car fire at the 400 block of Elizabeth Street around 11 a.m. Saturday morning.

Nanaimo RCMP subsequently expanded the perimeter around the area and neither police or firefighters would comment about the nature of the incident at the time.RELATED: Nanaimo RCMP investigating shooting death at Wakesiah and Jingle Pot

In a subsequent press release, Const. Gary O’Brien said the fire was being investigated in relation to the shooting, where a man was found dead at approximately 10:50 a.m. after a shooting in the Wakesiah Avenue/Second Street area.

The victim was found in the parking lot of an apartment complex.
