One man is in hospital and another is in custody after a shooting in Langford Friday.
The West Shore RCMP was called to reports of a disturbance at a residence in the 2800-block of Jacklin Road at approximately 12:30 a.m. on April 5.

When officers arrived on scene they found an injured man who advised them he had been shot. The man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No other people were reported injured during the incident.
Const. Nancy Saggar with the West Shore RCMP said the man is expected to make a full recovery.
A short time after the incident, Sooke RCMP located and arrested one male suspect.
A home in the 2800-block of Jacklin Road is still cordoned off by yellow police tape. It is part of what appears to be a four-unit building.

As of Friday afternoon, police were still at the residence conducting their investigation. West Shore RCMP has a forensic team on scene.
The team entered one of the lower units of the building which has a mattress leaning against the front window outside and other debris in the front yard.
“Last night and even now we have our serious crimes unit heading up this investigation along with our crime reduction unit and assistance from our frontline officers,” Saggar said. “Police dog services were also called last night and attended.”

Saggar said police believe one other person was in the home at the time of the shooting but do not believe they were involved in any way.
While several child-sized bikes could be seen around the side of the building, Saggar said she was unable to comment on whether or not any children were inside at the time of the shooting.
Police believe this is a targeted crime rather than a random shooting.

“We believe that there’s definitely something that existed beforehand in order for something like this to take place,” Saggar said.
Jim Grant, a neighbour, said he has seen a police presence at the same unit previously. He said he has had no interaction with his neighbours, who he thinks have been living there for a few years now.
Grant was working an overnight shift so he was not home when the shooting occurred, but he said he saw a police presence at the residence when he arrived Friday morning.
“Having four kids it’s concerning when you hear the fact that there’s shots being fired right next door,” Grant said. “Hopefully they get it dealt with and get it under control and I don’t have to worry about it for my kids and for my family.”
Saggar said she believes the shooting is unusual as it is not something West Shore RCMP has dealt with recently. Because it is believed to be targeted, Saggar said police do not have any indicators to suggest that it is something that will happen often.
Investigators are open to all avenues of investigation and will be determining whether or not drugs and gangs were involved.
Saggar said police will be canvassing homes in the area to gather more information. She advises any members of the public who hear or see suspicious activity to call police.
“Somebody from the public alerted us and we were able to get here in a very quick amount of time,” Saggar said. “As a result, that investigation was able to move forward quickly and we were able to alert our partners and other communities and that was a direct result as to the apprehension of a suspect.”
